For too long, we’ve felt a disconnect between our communities and the politicians claiming to represent us. As my stepson’s 18th birthday approached, he told me that he did not see the point in registering to vote. What difference could his one vote make? Darin figured politicians would do whatever they wanted to do, regardless of the impact on us. I wondered whether I should just give up on Norwalk, the town where I was born and raised. As I spoke with my neighbors in Silvermine and across Norwalk, I realized that we’re not in separate camps. We’re in this together! Progressive growth depends on the dialogue involving neighbors, community activists, business leaders, and elected representatives. Our common goal is to move Norwalk forward as the leading destination in Fairfield County. Some of the most innovative ideas come out of debates around the kitchen table. We need to make sure those ideas make their way to the Common Council, to the Mayor’s office, to Hartford. I knocked on a lot of doors in District D last year, and I’ll be back soon to continue the conversation. This isn’t about what I can do for you or what you can do for me. That’s a short-term fix. Our chosen home deserves a long-term approach. I invite you to read about the issues; evaluate my initiatives concerning affordable housing, flooding, and education; and allow me to earn your vote. I hope you will join our team!
